FLOORING AND ACOUSTIC SYSTEMS
The flooring system is the major trim feature for the floor of the vehicle and is the carrier for a significant portion of the interior acoustic system designed to block and absorb road and structural noise. The dash insulator, which is designed to block engine noise from entering the interior compartment, is another major interior acoustic product. Other flooring trim components include rear package trays, floor mats, engine side [acoustic] [insulators] and trunk trim. We provide a full range of flooring and acoustic systems to meet all OEM price points and various styling, weight and acoustic requirements. Our systems integration capability in acoustic science enables us to specifically tune our suite of Silent Solutions® products to meet the acoustic requirements for both sound blockage and sound absorption to create a quieter interior. We believe our vertical integration capability in the manufacturing of non-woven and woven carpet, barrier and acoustic components, provides us significant competitive advantages. In order to meet ever-increasing customer demands for price and performance, we have developed EcoBlend™, Intercept™ and barium sulfate solutions. EcoBlend™ is a product that converts our post-industrial waste into consumer products such as package trays and acoustical insulators. This “green” solution serves a dual purpose of minimizing scrap in our facilities and landfills and lowering raw material costs. Intercept™ is a suite of stain treatments designed to block, defend and guard treated surfaces from being soiled or stained. This product line has been laboratory tested against all typical consumer foods, beverages and household items and marketed to OEMs as a low-cost solution to improve and maintain the appearance of the interior. Barium sulfate is a product that introduces powdered barium sulfate material to SprayPUR™ in order to reduce engine noise as an acoustic insulator. The enhanced acoustic performance is complemented by this low cost execution as the amount of urethane is reduced by the introduction of barium sulfate, which is a lower cost material. This product is currently supplied to premium vehicles in the European and U.S. markets.
