Nezar Akeel is Vice President, North Asia for International Automotive Components (IAC.) In this role, Akeel oversees all functions in the North Asia region, including engineering, operations, commercial, and finance.
With more than 24 years in the automotive industry, Akeel has extensive experience at both the OEM and tier 1 interior supply levels in executive management, operational excellence, engineering, and developing customer and partner relationships with Asian and US OEMs. Prior to his current role, he was IAC’s Vice President of Japan Operations, where he successfully developed and implemented a financial and operational turnaround. Prior to that, from 2009 to 2012, Akeel operated his own management consulting company to advise small, mid-size companies and Private Equity firms, in their turnarounds which included leading another restructure at Alexandria Automotive Castings in Alexandria, Egypt, serving as CEO and Managing Director. Prior to that, he spent a total of 11 years in various commercial, engineering and program management leadership roles at various automotive interior suppliers which include IAC predecessor companies Textron and Lear. Akeel started his career working 7 years in various manufacturing engineering roles with Toyota in Japan, and General Motors in Detroit.
Akeel holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich. and MS Engineering Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. He lived in Japan for a total of 6 years and is speaker of multiple languages to varying degrees including; Japanese, Arabic, Spanish. He was the Recipient of the Society of Manufacturing Engineer’s – Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award in 2004.
